CMB Foundation Welcomes Dr. Thaksaphon (Mek) Thamarangsi as Chief Representative and Director of the CMB Bangkok Office

CMB Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Thaksaphon Thamarangsi as Chief Representative and Director of the Bangkok Office, effective January 1, 2026.

Commonly known by his nickname ‘Mek’, Dr. Thamarangsi brings more than two decades of distinguished experience in public health policy, systems strengthening, and regional collaboration. He joins CMB from the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for South-East Asia, where he most recently served as Director of Programme Management. Over his many years with WHO, he directed regional initiatives to advance health systems, address noncommunicable diseases and environmental health, and promote healthier populations.

Prior to his WHO tenure, Dr. Thamarangsi directed the International Health Policy Program (IHPP) in Thailand and the Center for Alcohol Studies, leading research and policy initiatives on noncommunicable disease prevention, alcohol control, and health promotion. His academic contributions span numerous peer-reviewed publications and technical reports, reflecting deep expertise in health systems governance, universal health coverage, and investment for health.

Dr. Thamarangsi earned his Ph.D. in Health Policy from Massey University, New Zealand, his Master of Public Health from Mahidol University, and his Doctor of Medicine from Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.  His first assignments as a physician were as a physician and hospital director at a rural hospital in Thailand.

At CMB, Dr. Thamarangsi will oversee CMB’s regional strategy and operations in Southeast Asia, working closely with partners across the region to advance equity in health, strengthen institutional collaboration, and support the next generation of leaders.
