
Vivian Lin is an honorary professor at University of Hong Kong, adjunct professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong and at LaTrobe University, Melbourne, and visiting professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She was Executive Associate Dean, LKS Faculty of Medicine, and Professor of Public Health Practice at the University of Hong Kong between 2019 and 2024. Prior to that, she served as Director of Health Systems for the World Health Organization in the Western Pacific Region from 2013-2018, where she led on universal health coverage, sustainable development goals, antimicrobial resistance, aging, and gender-based violence. She continues to support WHO as a member of the Technical Advisory Group for Universal Health Coverage and board member of the Asia Pacific Observatory for Health Policy and Systems. She is also co-chair of the Strategic Technical Advisory Group on Wellbeing and Health Promotion for WHO. Prior to WHO, she was Chair of Public Health at La Trobe University (2000-2013) and inaugural Executive Officer of the Australian National Public Health Partnership (1996-2000). With more than 40 years’ experience in public health, Prof Lin has held a variety of roles in policy and program development, health services planning, research and teaching. She is the author of several leading textbooks in Australia on public health, health policy, and health planning, as well as on health policy in China, has served on multiple editorial boards for leading journal, as well as multiple academic, government and community boards in relation to health promotion, public health education and research, complementary health workforce regulation, women’s health and the Chinese community. She has been involved with 5 Lancet Commissions in the past 5 years. Vivian earned her BA from Yale University and MPH and DrPH from UC Berkeley.
